PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for testing a fuel cladding tube capable of accurately obtaining the behavior of the fuel cladding tube in abnormal transient changes, by reproducing high power in the abnormal transient variation and a core environment at a high temperature, at high pressure, and in a high corrosive atmosphere. SOLUTION: In the method for testing the fuel cladding tube used in a nuclear reactor, hydrogen is added to a test strip 1 of the fuel cladding tube, then an internal heater is inserted into the fuel cladding tube test strip, and the fuel cladding tube test strip is heated for about 30 minutes or longer, by the internal heater and an external heater 14 disposed on the outer surface of a pressure vessel 7.
