An improved process is described for preparing a N-(substituted arylmethyl) í4-substituted-4-(disubstitutedmethyl)piperidine of formula (I): wherein Rl and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of halogen, CF3,OCF3, OCHF2, OCF2CHF2 and SF5;and Z and B are independently selected from the group consisting of CH and N; as well as processes for preparing intermediates useful in the overall process.
