<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alcohol in high straight-chain selectivity by a single step reaction process comprising the reaction of an olefinic compound with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: An alcohol is produced by reacting an olefinic compound with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a metal complex containing one or more kinds of Group 8 to Group 10 transition metals and a protonic solvent, wherein the metal complex has an organic phosphorus ligand expressed by general formula (I) (in the formula (I), A is a bivalent organic group connecting two phosphorus atoms with at least three atoms; and R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>4</SP>each represent a hydrogen atom, a ≤30C alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkoxy group or an aryloxy group). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
