PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for suppressing degradation with time of a photoreceptor 4K due to a discharging as compared to a conventional apparatus while suppressing generation of an afterimage due to discharge error of the photoreceptor 4K. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: a photoreceptor 4K; a charging device 23K uniformly charging the photoreceptor; an optical writing device, not shown in the figure, writing an electrostatic latent image in the photoreceptor 4K after uniformly charged; a developing device 6K developing the electrostatic latent image carried by the photoreceptor 4K with toner; a transfer unit, not shown in the figure, transferring the toner image obtained by development from the photoreceptor 4K onto an intermediate transfer belt; and a discharging means having a discharging lamp 22K discharging the photoreceptor 4K subjected to a transfer process by the transfer unit, wherein the discharging means is configured so that a discharge amount during image formation is smaller than that during a post-process after the image formation to form a toner image on the photoreceptor 4K.
