PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, program and recording medium for extracting information embedded in a document as a marking image representing predetermined information. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 10 includes: a marking image registering means 78 for registering a plurality of marking images; an extraction means 80 for analyzing an embedded image contained in input image data inputted from an image reading means 72 to extract embedded information represented with the embedded image; an approximate marking image retrieving means 82 for comparing the embedded image contained in the input image data with the registered marking image, when the extraction means fails the extraction of the embedded information, to retrieve a marking image approximate to the embedded image among the plurality of marking images registered; and an image forming means 74 for performing image formation processing corresponding to the embedded information obtained from the approximate marking image retrieved.
