PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head test method or a tester that automatically sets a magnetic head assembly on a head clamp base, and improves throughput of magnetic head test processing. SOLUTION: The magnetic head test method to easily place the magnetic head assembly on the head clamp base includes: positioning the magnetic head assembly by fitting a mounting hole of an mounting base of the magnetic head assembly 11 with a boss pin or a receiving hole of a tray, with a pin or a hole on a mounting table, and with a positioning pin on the head clamp base 50, respectively; positioning a suction collet using as a reference, the boss pin or the receiving hole of the tray 4, the pin or the hole on the mounting table; and the positioning pin on the clamp base, respectively, and sucking the mounting base of the magnetic head assembly and transferring the magnetic head assembly from the tray to the clamp base by use of a handling robot without requiring high positioning accuracy.
