The method is applied in an antitheft device (1) operating by locking the steering column of the vehicle. The method is of the type in which electric power (ALIM) allowing a locking of the antitheft device is supplied to the antitheft device only when an electric power supply circuit of the vehicle engine is in an open state and in which a locking command (V/D) "vehicle stationary", data item (Vv/) and an "engine stopped" data item (Vm/) are taken into account to allow the locking. According to the invention, the method also takes account of a data item (+APC/) representing the open or closed state of the electric power supply circuit of the engine in order to authorize the locking (S1) only when the engine is stopped (Vm/=1) and the engine electric power supply circuit is effectively open (+APC/=1). This method is particularly suitable for a vehicle fitted with an automatic engine stop/restart functionality. |
