DISCHARGE LAMP LIGHTING DEVICE, AND LUMINAIRE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of starting and lighting a discharge lamp even when the load impedance of the discharge lamp fluctuates.

SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device includes: a first frequency control circuit 13 for variably controlling the operation frequency finv of a driving circuit 11 from a start point frequency fs to an end point frequency fe so that the output of an inverter circuit 2 is increased in order to start and light the discharge lamp 6; and a second frequency control circuit 17 for detecting the output power of a power conversion circuit by a current flowing in a resonance circuit after starting and lighting the discharge lamp 6, and for controlling the operation frequency of the driving circuit 11 so that the detected output power is set to be a target value. This discharge lamp lighting device also has a frequency shifting means 14 for variably changing the operation frequency finv to a prescribed frequency fh1 on the start point frequency fs side for a fixed time period to such an extent that the output power of the inverter circuit 2 does not practically change, after starting and lighting the discharge lamp 6.
