<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce deviation in optical level between a plurality of channels multiplexed into a wavelength multiplexed light in an optical transmission system for remotely exciting an optical fiber for amplification for amplifying the wavelength multiplexed light. <P>SOLUTION: The wavelength multiplexed light to be output from a transmission station 10 is amplified by an EDF 47 and transmitted to a receiving station 20. An excitation light generated by a light source 71 provided in the transmission station 10 is supplied to the EDF 47. One part of the wavelength multiplexed light amplified by the EDF 47 is guided to the transmission station 10.
