<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarized beam splitter having superior polarized beam splitting capability with which a display device having superior productivity and superior display quality of color tone, luminance, etc., can be obtained. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided the polarized beam splitter which comprises a laminate including a base layer and a thin film layer by forming a thin film on at least one surface of a transparent base material to obtain the laminate, forming microprojections on a thin-film surface of the laminate by a transfer method, and contracting the laminate along at least one axis in a surface to fold the thin film, wherein an interface between the base layer and thin film layer is folded, a surface of the thin film layer forms a plurality of ridges extending in stripes corresponding to folds, and a plurality of microprojections are formed on raised surfaces of the ridges while spaced apart from each other at an inter-peak average distance shorter than an inter-peak average distance of the ridges. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
