PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring device of a handrail driving force of a passenger conveyor capable of constituting an inexpensive monitoring system and ensuring excellent diagnosis accuracy. SOLUTION: The monitoring device of the handrail driving force of the passenger conveyor comprises a handrail average speed calculation means 14 for calculating the average speed V1 of a handrail 8 by using an output signal 1 of a handrail speed detector 13, a handrail speed amplitude calculation means 15 for calculating the speed amplitude valueΔV of the handrail by using the output signal 1, a motor rotational number calculation means 17 for determining the number of rotations of a drive motor 1 from the information of a driving torque control device 4, a passenger load factor calculation means 21 for calculating a passenger load factor from the information of a drive torque control device 4, and a diagnosis means 19 for diagnosing whether or not the handrail driving force is abnormal from the average speed V1 and the speed amplitude valueΔV calculated by using the output signal 1 outputted in timing when it is determined that the passenger load factor is lower than a predetermined value, and an output signal 2 of a step speed detector 12.
