PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auto-tensioner for restraining deterioration of a braking force. SOLUTION: This auto-tensioner 1 includes a coil spring 4, which is arranged in a cylindrical member 5 and whose one end 4a contacts a rotary member 21 under a compressed condition, and a reinforcing member 31 whose one end contacts a base 2 and whose other end 31b contacts the other end 4b of the coil spring 4. A friction member 35 coupled immovably from the reinforcing member 31 in its extending direction is formed on the reinforcing member 31. Then, the coil spring 4 presses a bottom face of the friction member 35 to contact a bottom wall 3 of the base 2 by a repulsive force of the compression, and enlarges the reinforcing member 31 in a direction for making an outer periphery of the friction member 35 into contact with an inner periphery 5a of the cylindrical member 5 by rotation of the rotary member 21.
