PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a vehicular engine, verifying ease of generation of preignition, in an operating range with less influence on a vehicular engine even if preignition is generated in advance. SOLUTION: The control device for a vehicular engine comprises: a cylinder state change means (PCM 30) changing a state in a cylinder, by controlling an operational status of the vehicular engine 1; and a preignition detection means (PCM 30 or the like) detecting the preignition generated in a combustion chamber of the vehicular engine. The cylinder state change means is constituted so that the state in the cylinder can be changed to the state easily generating the preignition, in a low revolution and low load state of the operational status of the vehicular engine 1. The preignition detection means determines whether the preignition is generated or not, depending on the change of the state in the cylinder by the cylinder state change means to the state easily generating the preignition.
