PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for positioning a gear shape workpiece, which apparatus does not require to attach an arbor to the gear shape workpiece beforehand, and as a result, can reduce the labor and space for attaching the arbor to the workpiece, and further can simplify a loading apparatus. SOLUTION: The apparatus for positioning the gear shape workpiece comprises a cylindrical workpiece receiving member 3 for being inserted into the central bore W1 of the gear shape workpiece Wa and for rotatably supporting the gear shape workpiece Wa, a pin member 56 which faces to the center of the workpiece receiving member 3, and is positioned inside the teeth groove in the state that both surfaces of the tip end portion 561 in the width direction do not come into contact with both side surfaces of the teeth groove of the gear shape workpiece Wa, and has the width of the tip end portion 561 larger than the minimum width of the teeth groove and smaller than the maximum width of the teeth groove, a cylinder 54 for advancing the pin member 56 toward the center of the workpiece receiving member 3 until both side surfaces of the pin member 56 in its width direction have come into contact with the both side surfaces of the teeth groove, and an adjusting plate 2 for changing its angular position by swivelling the pin member 56 about the center of the workpiece receiving member 3.
