PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device designed so that temperature rises in paper non-passage areas caused by passing a plurality of recording materials of widths smaller than the paper-passable maximum size (i.e., small size paper) through a fixing nip are prevented without requiring additional heating elements of various sizes and complex temperature control. SOLUTION: Heat conductive sections 11 constituted by providing a heat absorbing member 20 formed from a roller-shaped member with high heat conductivity of metal or the like, and a moving part 21 for moving the heat absorbing member 20 to a required position, are disposed at both ends of a thin cylindrical fixing film 13 so as to be movable back and forth, so as to correspond to paper non-passage areas of the fixing nip N formed by bring a fixing section 7 having an infrared heater 18, and pressure roller 8 into press contact with each other.
