<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-security portable electronic device, a terminal device, and an authentication system, and an authentication method therefor. <P>SOLUTION: When receiving a random number request command from the terminal device 13 for processing the portable electronic device 11, the portable electronic device 11 generates a random number and transmits the generated random number to the terminal device 13.
