PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering column device having the short overall length with a detaching mechanism. SOLUTION: A jacket 1 is constituted by inserting an upper jacket 1a into a lower jacket 1b. An extensible steering shaft 2 is supported in the jacket 1. A pair of distance brackets 1c are integrally formed on a lower surface of an upper end part of the lower jacket 1b arranged between a pair of side brackets 5d connected to a vehicle body. A lock bolt 6 is inserted into support holes 1d formed in the distance brackets 1c and oblong holes 5e for tilt formed in a pair of side brackets 5d. A fastening means 21 for fastening the lock bolt 6 is provided. A fixing part 18 for detaching having an oblong hole 18c for a telescope is held between the one side bracket 5d and the one distance bracket 1c.
