PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic sensor which can detect a close-range obstacle. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic sensor 10 is provided with a transmitting element 11 for transmitting an ultrasonic wave forward from a vehicle, a receiving element 12 for detecting the ultrasonic wave reflected by the obstacle, and a reflecting member 13 for reflecting the ultrasonic wave transmitted from the transmitting element 11 to change the traveling direction thereof. The reflecting member 13 is made of a material such as metal and hard resin which can reflect an ultrasonic wave efficiently and is provided on a peripheral part 11b of the transmitting element 11. The ultrasonic sensor 10 can change a transmittable area T into a transmittable area T1, which is closer to the ultrasonic sensor 10, by the reflecting member 13 to allow the transmittable area T1 and a receivable area R to be overlapped with each other in an area close to the ultrasonic sensor 10, thereby allowing an obstacle M2, which exists closer than the area detectable when the reflecting member 13 is not provided, to be detected.
