A composition comprising compounds having therapeutic effects on arthritis and other pain symptoms is provided to accumulate endorphins in central nervous system and other body sites including synovial fluid by inhibiting the activity of enzyme inactivating enkepaline of endorphins, thereby reducing pain and inflammation condition. The composition for treating acute or chronic arthritis and other painful conditions comprises 50mg to 5g of D-phenylalanine(DPA) or 100mg to 10g of D,L-phenylalanine(DLPA), and optionally comprises the therapeutically effective amount of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAID).
