PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphate-modified oligonucleotide analog with enhanced immunostimulatory activity.

SOLUTION: The phosphate-modified oligonucleotide is an oligonucleotide having at least one pyrimidine-purine (Py-Pu) motif corresponding to formula I. This oligonucleotide is highly effective in mediating immune response, thus being curatively and prophylactically useful for the purpose of inducing immune response, and of treating diseases and disorders such as cancers and viral infections.
