PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition exhibiting bright color in the visible range from blue to green, orange and red, stable even at a low temperature and having water retention property and high safety, an oily medicine for cosmetic use or external skin preparation use and cosmetics or external skin preparations containing the medicine. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises at least one substance selected from the esters of phytosterol and 1-22C straight-chain saturated monobasic fatty acids.
