PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer equipped with a printing color switching mechanism that has high processing capability at a low cost. SOLUTION: A carrier 7 with a printing head 1 and ink ribbons 3 mounted thereon is moved parallel to a platen 4. By switching between ribbon guides 6 holding the ink ribbons 3 in their respective colors, the printer is switched to the ink ribbon 3 in a specific color. A medium 5 is struck by a printing head 1 via the ink ribbons 3 and thus the printer prints on the medium 5. The printer includes: a driving means for moving the platen 4 in a direction opposite to the printing head 1; a first projection 15 disposed on a specific part of the ribbon guide 6; and a second projection 14 disposed on a specific part of the platen 4 and used to move and switch the ribbon guide 6 by abutting on the first projection 15 according to the position of the platen 5 moved by the driving means.
