PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically set the position of a welding torch to the center of a groove. SOLUTION: A welding truck 12 is loaded on an upper surface of a steel plate 10 so as to travel along a groove 14 for performing the butt welding of two steel plates 10 and 11 to be welded. A right-to-left direction driving device frame 15 is installed on an upper surface of the welding truck 12, and a driving device 16 and a first supporting stand 19 to be moved in the right-to-left direction by the driving device 16 are installed thereon. A vertical direction driving device frame 23 is supported by the first supporting stand 19 via a supporting arm 22. A second supporting stand 27 is provided on the vertical direction driving device frame 23 so as to be vertically moved by the driving device 24, groove sensors 33, 33a and a welding torch 31 are supported by the second supporting stand 27, so that the groove sensors 33, 33a and the welding torch 31 can be positionally adjusted by the driving devices 16, 24.
