In one embodiment, a method and apparatus detects an object; detects a measured distance between the object and an imaging device; matches the object with a profile; selects an allowable distance between the object and the imaging device; compares the allowable distance with the measured distance; and selectively reduces operation of the imaging device based on the allowable distance and the measured distance.
