A processing device (D) is intended to form part of an infrastructure (RC) for the time division multiplexed transmission of multimedia contents of at least one channel in different transmission time slots, the multimedia contents being arranged in at least two complementary data layers. This device (D) is responsible, in the presence of an association of a time slot with each complementary layer constituting a multimedia content of a channel, i) for separating the complementary layers of each multimedia content to be transmitted, ii) for chopping the separate complementary layers into portions of chosen size, and iii) for integrating each portion of a layer into a burst so that each burst is transmitted during a time slot associated with the layer which comprises the portion that it integrates.
