<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of a bidirectional excitation type Raman amplifier which provides stabilized performance irrespective of the lump-loss on a transmission path fiber, and to provide an optical transmission system. <P>SOLUTION: An optical fiber amplifier Raman-amplifies signal light propagating through the transmission path fiber 3 bidirectionally excited by supplying forward excitation light and backward excitation light to the transmission path fiber 3. The proportion of variation for signal optical output power to the variation of forward excitation optical power is obtained, while the supply of the backward excitation light to the transmission path fiber 3 is cut, the forward excitation optical power is optimized according to the proportion, and the backward excitation optical power is controlled according to the forward excitation optical power. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
