<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device having excellent optical characteristics and durability by preventing a protective layer material from flowing into a gap between mutually adjacent protrusions to certainly form a hollow part between the protrusions, in a process to form the protective layer of the optical device. <P>SOLUTION: The optical device 20 is an optical device provided with a polarization separating function, and equipped with: a plurality of linear protrusions 22 which is arranged on a base 21, and comprises a conductor, wherein the linear protrusions 22 are approximately in parallel with one another; and the protective layer 24 which covers upper portions of the plurality of protrusions 22, and is arranged so as to form the hollow part 26 between the mutually adjacent protrusions 22, and is characterized in that the width of the protrusion 22 takes on a maximum value at a position nearer to the protective layer 24 side than the position at half the height of the protrusion 22. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
