PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified epoxidized polyphenylene ether resin that has an excellent compatibility with an epoxy resin. SOLUTION: The modified epoxidized polyphenylene ether resin is represented by the general formula (1) (wherein A is a hydrogen atom or a specific monofunctional organic group containing one epoxy group and a phenylene ether group; m is an integer of≥1; R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each independently a hydrogen atom or a monofunctional function group; X<SB>1</SB>and Y<SB>1</SB>are each independently a bifunctional or polyfunctional functional group; and U is an alkylcarbonyl group, an arylcarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group, an alkylcarbamoyl group, an arylcarbamoyl group or a glycidyl group).
