PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field sequential type on-vehicle display device giving no sense of incongruity even at a low temperature. SOLUTION: A first light source 18 illuminates a liquid crystal display element 15 with a first luminescent color. A second light source 19 illuminates the liquid crystal display element 15 with a second luminescent color. A temperature detecting element 17 detects temperature around the liquid crystal display element 15 and outputs temperature data. A control means 12 allows a liquid crystal display 11 to display with a plurality of colors by field sequential drive using both the first and second luminescent colors, and allows the liquid crystal display 11 to display with a single color using one of the first and second luminescent colors when the temperature data is smaller than a predetermined value.
