PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of easily determining deposition of exhaust gas deposit in an exhaust gas port of an engine or exhaust manifold. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine is provided with a coolant passage 61 arranged along the exhaust gas port 24 or exhaust manifold 26, and the exhaust gas of the engine 2 is cooled by circulation of coolant in this coolant passage 61. Moreover, in this internal combustion engine 1, a percentage of rise edlthw in the temperature of the coolant ethw with an increase in an engine load factor and the predicted value edlthwcr of this percentage of rise edlthw are compared, thereby determining the deposition of the exhaust gas deposit in the exhaust gas port 24 or exhaust manifold 26.
