<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a musical sound generator for generating a percussion instrument sound intentionally silenced halfway and a percussion instrument sound naturally attenuated to the last according to key operation. <P>SOLUTION: A key pressing period (a gate time) from a note-on time when key pressing for instructing the start of sounding is performed until a note-off time when key release for instructing the stop of sounding is performed, is clocked, and when the clocked key pressing period is shorter than a threshold gate time TGT associated with the tone of the percussion instrument sound during sounding, the percussion instrument sound during sounding is naturally attenuated and silenced. When the clocked key pressing period is longer than the threshold gate time TGT, the percussion instrument sound during sounding is forcibly attenuated from the note-off time and silenced.
