PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector capable of accurately specifying a position even under ground, and a photographing device using the position detector. SOLUTION: A plurality of light sources 2 discharge light modulated by positional information showing the positions where the light sources are installed. The light is received by a line sensor 12 via an optical system 11, and a positional information acquisition section 13 demodulates and acquires the positional information sent from the light sources 2 from a one-dimensional image acquired serially. The position on the line sensor 12 where an image of the light of each light source 2 exists is also acquired. A measuring position specifying section 14 specifies a measuring position based on the positional information corresponding to each light source 2 and the position on the line sensor 12.
