PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce band unevenness and to reduce deviation of a recording ratio in each scan recording in divided recording wherein an image is completed in bidirectional scan recording by a plurality of number of times by using inks of a plurality of different colors. SOLUTION: Total ink discharge amount of each ink at an end area in a scanning direction of a recording head in an image area determined based on image data is measured, and the measured total ink discharge amount is compared with a threshold. According to the compared result, the ink discharge amount in each pass is controlled so that the ink discharge amount when recording by a final pass may be smaller than the average ink discharge amount when recording by passes other than the final pass in the end area exceeding the threshold than in the remaining area other than the image area from which the end area is extracted.
