PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging system which charges an accumulator of a large charging rate by using a charger of a small capacity in a short time. SOLUTION: A load 13 receives power from the accumulator 15 or a DC power supply device 11. The DC power supply device converts an AC voltage or a DC voltage to a prescribed DC voltage. The charger 17 can charge the accumulator by a set current by receiving the power from the DC power supply device. This charging system includes two charging modes. In the first charging mode, the charger charges the accumulator when the DC power supply device feeds power to the charger while feeding the power to the load. In the second mode, the DC power supply device charges the accumulator while feeding the power to the load. Either of the first charging mode or the second charging mode becomes advantageous owing to a variation of the power consumption of the load. A control part determines which charging mode is advantageous, and switches a switch SW1 and a switch SW2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
