A method and system for selecting the number of MIMO data streams, and herein the method includes: S102, Base Transceiver Station(BTS) detects the buffer area states of each user equipment, and determines the symbol SIR of the first, the second and the third down shared data channel corresponding to the three channel quality identifications. S104, BTS transmits single data stream to the user equipment, when the buffer area of the user equipment is lower than a first threshold. S106, for one user equipment, BTS transmits double data streams to the user equipment, when the lower SIR of symbol SIR of the second and the third down shared data channel is higher than the symbol SIR of the first down shared data channel, and the sum of transmitting block sizes corresponding to the symbol SIR of the second and the third down shared data channel are larger than the transmitting block sizes corresponding to the symbol SIR of the first down shared data channel. Otherwise, BTS transmits single data stream to the user equipment. Repeat step s102 to s106, until completing the detection of all the user equipments belonging to the serving down shared data channel cells of the BTS. |
