An inkjet image forming apparatus and a method of controlling the inkjet image forming apparatus are provided to sequentially turn on power transistors respectively connected to multiple nozzles to reduce a time required to detect all the nozzles and detect a missing nozzle with a simple structure. An inkjet image forming apparatus includes a temperature sensing unit(43), a selector and a controller(50). The temperature sensing unit is arranged in a print head and includes a plurality of temperature sensors(43-1,43-2,43-n) for respectively sensing temperatures of multiple nozzles. The selector selectively drives the plurality of temperature sensors. The controller controls the selector to sequentially drive the plurality of temperature sensors and detects a missing nozzle according to the temperatures sensed by the plurality of temperature sensors.
