APPARATUS AND METHOD TO ALLOCATE/TRANSMIT/RECEIVE A CONNECTION IDENTIFIER IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for transmitting/receiving a connection identifier in a communication system are provided to perform hand over by using an allocated transparent connection identifier. First to seventh base stations(211~223) transmits range information indicating a range of a transparent connection identifier to a mobile terminal. The transparent connection identifier is used in transparent areas(260). If an initial connection request for using the transparent connection identifier is detected from the mobile terminal, the first to seventh base stations allocate transparent connection identifiers considering the range information to the mobile terminal and transmit the allocated transparent connection identifiers to the mobile terminal. The allocated transparent connection identifier is transmitted to the mobile terminal. The transparent area is an area including a cell corresponding to one or more base stations including the base station. The transparent connection identifier is a connection identifier shared in the base station included in the transparent area.
