An apparatus and a method for displaying an object moving path using a text are provided to enable a user to confirm the movement route of a desired target object conveniently without checking monitoring images one by one. A CPU(Central Processing Unit) sets up a text display mode for the movement route of an object according to a request from a user(S10), and extracts a brightness signal component, a color signal component and an edge signal component for the target object within a window mask(S11). If a user selects a search time range setting menu item to designate a time range, the CPU compares the feature information of the target object within a certain time range with monitoring images by each channel(S12). When detecting a monitoring image at which the target object exists(S13), the CPU detects the recording time and the channel information recorded to the corresponding monitoring image(S14). The CPU converts channel information into photographing place information(S15). The text converting unit converts the recording time and the place information in text(S16), and an OSD creation unit displays the converted text(S17).
