Various embodiments of a downhole tool (10) with a telescoping conductor member are provided. In one aspect, a downhole tool (10) is provided that includes a housing (14) and a mandrel (12) telescopically positioned in the housing (14). The mandrel (12) and the housing (14) define a pressure compensated substantially sealed chamber (234) containing a volume of a non- conducting fluid. A conductor member (26) is positioned in the housing (14) for providing an electrically conducting pathway. The conductor member (26) has a first segment (28, 32) and a second segment (36). The first segment (2 8, 32) is moveable with the mandrel (12) and relative to the second segment (36 ). A portion of the conductor member (26) is electrically insulated from an ambient fluid by the non-conducting fluid. A first biasing member (38) is provided for maintaining a conducting pathway between the first segment (28, 32) and the second segment (36). The tool (10) provides for electrical transmission in a telescoping tool.
