A monitoring system of side-rear area of a vehicle and a control method thereof are provided to display enlarged image of necessary area and generate an alarm in the set dangerous situation by taking images of lateral side, lower side and blind spot. A monitoring system of side-rear area of a vehicle comprises a sensor unit(10) including an image sensor(12) which takes images of the rear and lateral sides of the vehicle a by using a vehicle speed sensor(11) and a wide angle lens, a controller(20) which selectively outputs lateral and lower side image signal or blind spot image signal from the images outputted from the image sensor, a display unit(30) which shows images corresponding to the image signal outputted from the controller, and an alarm unit(40) which receives the control signal from the controller and generates an alarm in dangerous situation.
