The method involves converting energy from electromagnetic waves in a silicon on insulator substrate (32) into heat. The energy from the heat is converted into electricity using vertical super-grids (30), and electrical charges are stored. The light is concentrated for being focalized on a structured zone of the substrate using a micro lens (31), where the micro lens is made of glass or transparent polymer resin. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a thermoelectric/thermoionic generator for implementing an electromagnetic wave converting method (2) a method for fabricating a vertical super-grid.
