The device has a displacement unit for displacing a band (1) between an initial position (PI) and a final position, and acting on an end (8) or near the band located in downstream of printing support surfaces (3) in a movement direction of the band. A cutting unit cuts the band into sheets after a printing phase. The displacement unit is formed by a spring type tensioning unit (6) for allowing the band to be stressed from the initial position to the final position in a permanent manner by exerting gravitational, elastic, or magnetic forces. An independent claim is also included for a method for printing a flexible band stored in a roller.
