APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ALARMING AN OBSTACLE IN REAR AND SIDE OF VEHICLE

An apparatus and a method for alarming an obstacle at the rear and lateral sides of a vehicle are provided to promote safe driving by informing the safety of lane change precisely using information on lanes and obstacles existing in the rear and lateral sides of the vehicle. An apparatus for alarming an obstacle at the rear and lateral sides of a vehicle comprises an image sensing part(10) taking the images of traffic lanes and obstacles at right and left lateral sides of the vehicle; a data processing unit(30) which predicts a lane change by using lane information extracted from the images delivered from the image sensing part, determines the presence of obstacle and produces alarming signal; an alarm unit(40) outputting an alarm in visual, acoustic, or tactile mode according to the alarming signal delivered from the data processing unit; and a lane change signal sensing unit(20) sensing lane change signal inputted by the driver.
