A topic extracting device for automatically representing knowledge, interest, characteristic, or taste of a user from documents written by the user, and a system and a method for generating a social network by using the same are provided to automatically extract a topic representing the characteristics of the user and automatically form human relation among a plurality of users. A topic extractor(110) receives documents from a user document database and extracts an objective topic of the user from the received documents. A database unit(150) includes a topic database(151) storing the objective topic extracted from the topic extractor.
