PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing faulty transfer of a color toner image while suppressing the consumption of transparent toner. SOLUTION: A transparent toner image 20 formed in an image forming part 30T is transferred to the surface of an intermediate transfer belt 12 with predetermined image density, and toner images 21 formed in respective color image forming parts 30Y to 30K are formed as a layer on the transparent toner image 20. Since the image density of the transparent toner image 20 is set higher than that of the toner image 21, the toner images 21 formed in the image forming parts 30Y to 30K are formed on the transparent toner image 20 formed more densely, and the toner image 21 does not directly come into contact with a background part between the pixels of the transparent toner image 120, thereby preventing the faulty transfer.
