PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator having a body having reduced thickness. SOLUTION: This actuator 3 has the body 22 like a horizontally long box having an opened upper face, and a first gear to a fourth gear 38, 39, 40, 44 for transmitting rotation of a motor 42 to an output shaft 37 are stored inside the body 22. The first gear 38 is integrally provided in a lower end part of the output shaft 37, and a fitting projection 37a is protrudedly provided on one end side of the output shaft 37 in the direction of thickness of the body. The second gear 39 has a small diameter gear 39b meshing with the first gear 38 and a large diameter gear 39a formed coaxially with the small diameter gear 39b and is stored in the body 22 in such a way that the large diameter gear 39a is on the opposite side to the fitting projection 37a for the first gear 38 in the direction of thickness of the body. By arranging the second gear 39 in this manner, a space B is formed between a cover 21 and the output shaft 37, and a sensor 32 for detecting a rotation angle of the output shaft 37 is arranged in this space B.
