PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feeding unit and a feeding method for a sorting apparatus, in each of which the object to be sorted is made to pass through an observation part at a constant speed in a stable orbit and sorted properly into a nondefective article and a defective article even when the object to be sorted is a powdery material or a lightweight material each of which is apt to be affected by air resistance. SOLUTION: The feeding unit 1 for the sorting apparatus, which is used in the sorting apparatus for sorting the object 20 to be sorted in a space 31 of the observation part, is provided with: a compressed air supply part 2 for supplying the compressed air from a compressed air source; and an air knife 4 for jetting the compressed air, which is supplied from the compressed air supply part 2, toward the space 31 of the observation part of the sorting apparatus from an air spout 3. The object 20 to be sorted is supplied to the space 31 of the observation part of the sorting apparatus at the constant speed by using the compressed air jetted toward the space 31 of the observation part of the sorting apparatus from the air spout 3 of the air knife 4.
