PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of positively performing absorbing operation of impact energy during an occurrence of a secondary collision without delay and responding to change in an energy absorbing characteristic according to a collision condition. SOLUTION: A steering column 1 in which a steering wheel 2 and a steering mechanism 4 are connected and capable of moving in an axial length direction is equipped with a motor 5 rotating accompanying a movement and generating power, and applying resistance to the steering column 1; and an inertia disc 6 for applying inertia resistance to the steering column 1. The impact energy during the secondary collision applied to the steering wheel 2 is absorbed by power generation resistance by the power generation of the motor 5 and mechanical resistance by the inertia of the inertia disc 6. Further, the power generation amount of the motor 5 can be controlled to be increased and decreased by operation of a load control part 7, and the energy absorbing characteristic responding to the collision condition can be realized.
