PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately generate an air intake pulse at an air intake passage of a surge tank downstream side and appropriately attenuate a pulse from an air intake passage of a surge tank downstream side to its upstream side when executing an impulse supercharging even if a small surge tank is used, in an internal combustion engine provided with an intake air control valve for the impulse supercharging in the air intake passage.

SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine 10 of this invention has the intake air control valve 32 for impulse supercharging at the air intake passage 16 and a pulse attenuating member 56 having an attenuating function of the air intake pulse is arranged for at least one of the surge tank 22 arranged at upstream side of the intake air control valve 32 and the intake pipe 20 as an intake air passage separating member of the upstream side of the surge tank 22. Specifically, the pulse attenuating member 56 is arranged at a position a predetermined distance apart from a connection member CS for connecting the surge tank 22 and the intake passage separating member at the downstream side of the surge tank 22.
