PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle steering apparatus which enables appropriate counter steering according to the stability of a vehicle while securing good steering feeling. SOLUTION: A microcomputer 33 on an EPS ECU 18 side determines whether over-steer control (OS control) currently being exercised is in its expansion phase or convergence phase. If OS control is in the expansion phase with low vehicle stability, the microcomputer reduces a damper compensation current command Idp* (Idp**) as a damper compensation component which attenuates the steering speedωs of OS control.
